* *** ANT_MOAT_POST TXT - 3 Jun 2020 16:44:22 - JKNAUTH Ant Moats for Hummingbird Feeders --- ----- --- ----------- ------- The hummingbirds are back. I have some ant moats I'm willing to give away to Heritage South people (while supplies last). You must provide your own hummingbird feeder and hanger. Feeders are inexpensive and are available on Amazon and at local stores: hardware, home supply, garden supply, department, etc. If you want a free ant moat to use with your feeder, contact me at jeff@jgkhome.name. See http://jgkhome.name/Misc/Ant_Moat.htm for details about what an ant moat is. I build one from some hardware attached to a clear plastic jar that originally held Talenti gelato. You hang your hummingbird feeder from the bottom of the ant moat and refill the moat with water whenever required. The water keeps ants from getting to the sugar water in the feeder. The moat is also a popular drinking spot for small birds, e.g., goldfinches and Carolina wrens as seen in pictures a short way into this album: https://goo.gl/photos/4PqbvtijjsZtuL8j9. There are also a couple of hummingbird movies with sound at the very end of the album. If you are unfamiliar with viewing a Google Photos album, see http://jgkhome.name/Misc/Google_Photos.htm for information about making the photos larger, navigating from photo to photo, displaying comments, and viewing the movies.
