Here are my comments on the Appendix H (undated) given out at the
9/19/09 Laptop Refresher class.

Page H-4:  In the third section:  I still believe that the "In the
           example below, I want" phrase can be misleading since the
           reader might first look to the big screen shot example below,
           which is not for James Smith.  I propose just changing the
           "In the example below, I want" to "Suppose I want".

Page H-9:  Last year you had incorrectly added "Donavan" as a result for
           the "%van" search example.  That was not in my original text:
           http://nbtha.org/WakeBOE/wildcard-2008.htm.  I pointed out
           the error when I saw your 10/20/08 draft (see item H-8 in
           http://nbtha.org/WakeBOE/PW_manual_H_2008-10-26.txt).  What
           then got distributed with the laptops for the 11/4/08
           election had the extraneous "Donavan" crossed out by hand.

           It looks like you just forgot to make that correction when
           you revised Appendix H for 2009.  You had made other changes
           to this page for 2009, but not this one.

           There are two possible fixes:

              1) Delete "Donavan" from the "%van" search results, or

              2) Leave "Donavan" in the "%van" search results AND add it
                 to the "%van% search results AND add it to the database
                 at the top of the page.

           The first is easier (and is why you did the handmarked
           correction last year, I assume).  The second is nicer in that
           it provides another example of a couple of "van" hits.

           I pointed out the error to Nicole in today's class.
