* *** SATURDAY_PICKUP_COMMENTS TXT - 5 May 2018 16:28:08 - JKNAUTH Some comments after I did a quick review of my Saturday pickup material: Late-Breaking News sheets ------------- ---- ------ 1) I certainly agree about placing the outdoor (vinyl) signs during Monday setup, but suspect you did not mean to include the metal A-frame or the "No Campaigning" signs under "All Officials", bullet 7. We set out those signs on Tuesday morning. I just noticed that the All Officials Quick Guide does not explicitly mention the "No Campaigning" signs for any of the pre-opening-polls work. It does mention their retrieval for the post-closing-polls work. The next AO QG should mention their placements for before the polls open Tuesday morning. 2) The correction under Close of Polls, bullet 1, lists page 20. Instead it should be page 22. (I had missed the original error in 5-2018.2; good catch by someone.) 3) Why not provide multiple copies of the Late-Breaking News at Saturday pickup, or at least put it on your website to make it easier to make copies? It's fine to say the CJ must read all this aloud (and put everyone to sleep for most of it), but some of the items are detailed and seldom occur. Then if they do occur, people need to recall how to handle them, assuming they even remember the item from the Monday night reading by the CJ. I plan to make a copy of the sheets for each of the tables (RT, BT, and HT) to have on hand and for the officials to read more carefully than just hearing me read it to them late Monday. Chief Judge Supplies list ----- ----- -------- ---- 1) Page 1: Said I would get three sheets each for Voted and Unvoted labels. Instead for each type I got only two sheets. However that should be enough. 2) Page 2: Chif -> Chief CJ lanyard and card holder -- ------- --- ---- ------ 1) The cord is a much too long for me and is not adjustable. I will put some loose knots in it to bring the card holder up nearer to eye level for anyone trying to read it. 2) The name information is on one side of the card and the "Please return ..." text is on the other. There is a 50-50 chance that the wrong side will be visible at any point since that badge will flop around a lot and is also on a swivel. I suggest having the name info be entered on both sides of the card. Put the "Please return ..." text somewhere else, e.g., on CJ PG page 25, where it would be part of a checklist which must be signed by all three judges -- harder to overlook there during packup than having the text on the back of the badge, which the CJ may forget to look at during packup. Reconciliation Items label on blue bag -------------- ----- ----- -- ---- --- 1) "Completed Forms from Chief Judge Binder" -> "Completed Forms from Chief Judge" The current words make it sound as if everything actually came from the CJ Binder. Most of the items listed were in that binder at Saturday pickup and are pulled from and usually put back there during the day. However, for example, the Tabulator/ATV Match Sheet was not delivered in the binder and would not go there during poll closing. Many elections ago that sheet was delivered in the CJ Binder; maybe that's where these words came from. It has moved several times since then and now is delivered in the Ballot Table Kit in the gray bin. At polls closing, the Ballot Table Officials give the sheet to the CJ, probably not to go into the CJ Binder. At my polling place, I just have a CJ box where all such material is put by the appropriate people as we close the polls -- Tabulator tape, completed QGs, Match Sheet, etc. Then as one organized procedure, monitored by all the judges, we put each appropriate item in the blue bag and check it off the blue bag label. Other items are put in the CJ Binder, e.g., QGs. Ballot box labels ------ --- ------ An old comment: These labels do not stick well. When I get home and remove the ballot boxes from my trunk, I see many of the labels have come off halfway. If they are really intended to provide some sort of security, they don't do it well. Jeff
