Overlapped Tape Processing
(CJPG pages 28-29)

Pressing "Close Poll" has caused tape #1 to start printing.
In the steps below you will be asked to print four more tapes. For
each print, when requested with a
start printing tape, do the screen
operations listed in the box below. Each tape may take a minute or two
to print. Meanwhile you can be processing the tape previously
printed.
HOW TO START A PRINT
- Select "Report Options"
- Select "Voting Results"
- Select "Print Report"
- When tape #1 finishes printing, detach it and
now start printing tape #2. (per the instructions above)
- While tape #2 is printing, process tape #1.
- All three Judges sign tape #1.
- Record the number of Total Paper Sheets from tape #1 on the
Reconciliation Form found in your Chief Judge Binder.
- Fold tape #1 so the signatures are visible and secure it with
a paperclip.
- Place tape #1 in the Blue Reconciliation Items Bag.
- When tape #2 finishes printing, detach it and
now start printing tape #3. (per the instructions above)
- While tape #3 is printing, process tape #2.
- All three Judges sign tape #2; there will be no signature lines on
this tape. Sign in the blank space at the bottom of the tape.
- Fold tape #2 and seal it inside one of the two purple envelopes found
in your Chief Judge Binder.
- Assign a Judge to take that purple envelope home. Instruct the
Judge to mail the envelope in a locked mailbox the day after the
election.
- When tape #3 finishes printing, detach it and
now start printing tape #4. (per the instructions above)
- While tape #4 is printing, process tape #3.
- All three Judges sign tape #3 in the blank space at the bottom
of the tape.
- Fold tape #3 and seal it inside the other purple envelope
found in your Chief Judge Binder.
- Assign the other Judge to take the second envelope home.
Instruct the Judge to mail the envelope in a locked mailbox the day after the election.
- When tape #4 finishes printing, detach it and
now start printing tape #5. (per the instructions above)
- While tape #5 is printing, process tape #4.
- The three Judges DO NOT sign tape #4.
- Post tape #4 in a location where the public may view your precinct's results.
- When tape #5 finishes printing, DO NOT detach it and
DO NOT sign it.
- Press the "Cancel" button, then the "Finished-Turn Off"
button to shut down the Tabulator.
- Once the Tabulator has shut down completely and the screen is black,
remove the Thumb Drive and seal it in the Gold Envelope.
- All three Judges must sign the Gold Envelope.
- Place the Gold Envelope in the Chief Judge Supply Bag.
- Close the Key Access Panel and use the Black Key to lock it.
- Fold tape #5 and close the Tape Cover over it.
Here are some editing notes. Some of these were also made in the marked-up CJPG that I returned.
- To simplify the text, I gathered all the detailed "how to print" instructions
into one box at the top. The Judges probably need to see it only once, so
this reduces some clutter. It is easy to find if they need to see it more than once.
- Text corrections/additions are highlighted with cyan.
- I didn't highlight all the "When tape #_ finishes printing ..." intros I added nor all the printing
instructions at the top of the page, which is new text.
- For each "tape", I changed (but did not highlight) the "tape" into a "tape #" to be more specific.
- I moved up the "Place the Gold Envelope in the Chief Judge Supply Bag." item to put
all the Gold Envelope items together. I didn't highlight the move.
- 11/24/23: I have deleted an item that was in a previous version of this file. I now see the "ExpressVote card"
count is listed on all the tapes (e.g., tape #4 hung on the wall), so it is easily available later when the
ExpressVote ballots must be separated from the other ballots -- no need to record the count now.
- 11/27/23: Simplified description of tape #5 handling. Also fixed an order problem: Must close
Key Access Panel before closing the Tape Cover. Right? CJPG also has this same problem.
